Jump: The link between office space and innovation

Not far from me, in San Mateo, there’s a design firm called Jump Associates, that has embraced the idea that the place where it works plays a critical role in how people there work. According to the firm’s website:

“Despite all of the wonderful progress that we’ve made in the past two million years, humans remain very much physical beings. We’re strongly affected by our surroundings. A great environment can lift us up, make us better at what we do, and inspire great thoughts. A lousy place can leave us depressed, tired and dull individuals, dying to go home. We’ve put some of our best thinking into designing a great place to work and play. JumpSpace is intended to be a flexible, interactive environment that acts as a living laboratory for how soulful knowledge work can happen.”

I’ve got a request in to visit, and speak to their architect. But in the meantime, it’s worth checking out either the Flash tour on their site or their audio slideshow to see a brief tour and explanation of their philosophy behind how they created their current space.
