New faces and our advisory team

I had a chance last month to visit Duke for a day and convene the first meeting of our advisory team. It was great to just get folks together in the room to meet, in many cases for the first time. Unforunately, many of the media groups on campus have limited or no working relationships. Given that all these groups may be my sharing a space down the road, I’m hoping this project may help start building some bridges there.

In any case, you can check out our agenda and read the minutes.

Any facility that gets built, won’t actually be in place for a least a couple years. In the meantime, a lot of the student media groups — including The Chronicle, Cable13, and WXDU — are working in isolation with less than ideal facilities. So finding ways to work together in the short term, I think, will be important in keeping them relevant to the Duke community.

At the meeting, we talked about ways to help The Chronicle get more involved in podcasting, for instance. We also discussed things like getting Chronicle reporters on the radio for commentary or possible news items.

Hopefully more stuff, and more substantial stuff, will emerge as we continue the conversation.
