Check out MediaCloud to see the Semantic Web in action

One of the big announcements in the new media world this week came from Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society which unveiled MediaCloud. The tool gives you a way to visualize the way news and information are spreading. Take a moment to go play with it and see what you think.

The technology behind it was donated by Thomson Reuters’ Calais project. Krista Thomas, one of the folks working on Calais, posted an update on the project which you can see here.

By the way, her comment is posted at the end of a long thread that’s been running here discussing how semantic technologies might be used in the newsroom. The Semantic Web is one of those concepts that I’m still wrapping my brain around. I’m glad John Cass started the discussion here and along with Krista, have kept it going for awhile now. If you’re new to the subject, it’s worth catching up with their discussion.
