TED Talks: Jacek Utko: Can design save the newspaper?

I’ve become a big fan of the TED Talks video series. The latest video is from a talk by Jacek Utko, a Polish newspaper designer who redesigns papers in Eastern Europe. How good is he? Not only has he won some of the most prestigious awards in the world, but his designs have help drive circulation increases.

Listen all the way through to hear his two big lessons. First, design should be part of a process to change everything about a paper. Second, and perhaps more important: Someone like Utko, working in small outposts with no budget could still have tremendous impact. That’s an important message for everyone in a newsroom to hear in this era where our capacity for change often feels constrained by lack of resources and support.
