Where To Catch Me This Coming Week

I’ve been doing a fair bit of public speaking in recent weeks, which has been great fun. I’ve got a couple more events this coming week that I figured I’d post here for those of you in the Bay Area.

The first is Monday, April 27, at the Newcomm Forum in San Francisco. My panel: “Trends in Journalism – with Jen McClure, Moderator, SNCR Sr. Fellow Tom Abate, Chris O’Brien, San Jose Mercury News.” The event is at the San Francisco Marriott at 55 Fourth Street.

The cost of the Forum is $795 for all three days. But I can bring one guest. So if you’re interested in coming, drop me a note and I’ll send you the link to register. But there can be only one! So first come, first served…

Next Friday, I’m speaking at Journalism Innovations II
: New Work & Ideas for Making the News. The event is at the University of San Francisco. Registration is by suggested donation ($5 to $45), but they’re promising not to turn anyone away.

My panel is tentatively scheduled for 10:45 a.m. to noon. Here’s the description:

Journalism Education & Campus Newsrooms
How do journalism educators prepare students for future careers in an industry undergoing cataclysmic transformation? How are campus newsrooms evolving with this changing reality, to provide relevant training and resources for young reporters with an uncertain future, but ambition to fill the vital needs that journalists provide to a democracy?
• Chris O’Brien, The Next Newsroom
• Richard Kochi Hernandez, Visiting Fellow, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism
• Rick Rodriguez, Southwest Borderlands Journalism Institute at Arizona State University
• Cristina Azocar, Director, Center for the Integration & Improvement of Journalism
• Geneva Overholser, Director, Journalism Program, Annenberg School of Communications
• Moderator: Teresa Moore, journalism professor, University of San Francisco
